This combination of unique environment and diverse people make the Salinas Valley a world leader in agribusiness innovation and production. This state-of-the- art gallery takes you on an interpretive, interactive, and audiovisual exploration of contemporary agriculture and its historical roots.
Discover the history, technology and rich cross section of people from all walks of life dedicated to hard work, creativity and the search for a better life. All ages will enjoy the multilevel exhibits and displays, which explore agriculture from field to feast.
A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST
The Orientation Theater program introduces visitors to the Valley of the World Gallery, with montages of photos, interviews and photographs from the Salinas Valley then and now.
VALLEY OF THE WORLD GALLERY
Visitors experience the gallery through high tech audiovisual exhibits as well as through sight, sound, touch and taste. The exhibition focuses on the human element as well as the technology of farming and includes personal items and artifacts. The story is brought to life through audioclips, photographs, film footage of farm workers of various cultures, and unique tools and clothing used throughout the decades. Interactive computer stations illustrate the science and technology of agriculture.
INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS
Explore hands-on exhibits where experiential zones, computer and interactive displays introduce you to each phase of the gallery. Gardens of Eden is a sweeping timeline of Salinas Valley agriculture with multiple activity stations. The Innovators/Improving the Odds explores risk and technical innovations. Front Page shows multiple perspectives on controversial issues. Visit a produce market in Thats Where the Money Goes. Take the Long Haul and experience the life of a truck driver inside a life-size semi cab. Bet the Farm and encounter the risks of farming on a spinnable wheel of fortune with differing outcomes based on changing weather, labor and market conditions.
WINE AND DINE
Regional chefs demonstrate their creativity with the bounty of the valley with live and video presentations and regular wine and food tastings. Menus and recipes can be downloaded from computers on the spot. See produce grow and learn how to enjoy it in the Salinas Valley Sampler Demonstration Garden.
MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVE
The Valley Of The World Gallery explores many issues such as food safety, pesticides and biological controls, genetic engineering, labor relations through the years, water conservation, and more. Visitors view historic and contemporary issues from diverse viewpoints, and have repeated opportunities to share their thoughts. The result is a highly enjoyable, absorbing, and memorable experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
